Restart

Unplug all USB devices, after a few minutes restart your computer. When you have restarted, plug the USB device and see if it works. Lots of times This method  works for “USB Device Not Recognized error”

Update USB Driver it may fix USB Device Not Recognized error

The most common way of solve this problem is to check if need a new driver for your device.If windows 10 isn’t able to recognize the device,you can see in Device Manager that the device shows up as an “Unknown Device”.By going to Control Panel>>Device Manager or  Press Windows key + “R” and type devmgmt.msc, you can get to Device Manager window.

If that the reason,right click on Unknown Device and click on Properties.Then go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver.

Use USB Root Hub

  • Open Device Manager and single click on Universal Serial Controllers to expand it.Then find USB Root Hub option and right click it and choose Properties.

  • Then go to Power Managemement tab and uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option and click OK, then restart your computer.

If you have more than USB Root Hub listed,you need to repeat this direction. Please remember to press OK after every performance to save your change.

After that connect your USB devive and see if your computer is able to recognize it.

If still not working,go back and check Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power back on.

 

Change Power Supply

  • Go to Control Panel>>Hardware and Sound>>Power Option
  • Click on Choose What the power button does.
  • Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup option and then press Save changes button.

Then Restart your computer and connect your USB device.Then see if it works.

 

Change the USB Selective Suspend Settings

  • Open Control Panel>>Power Options.
  • Click on Change plan settings.
  • Then click on change advanced power settings.
  • Expand USB settings and expand USB selective suspend settings.
  • Disable both On battery and Plugged in settings.
  • Then press Apply and OK to save the changes.

Go to Device Manager and uninstall each item under USB Serial Bus Controllers. Before you start with anything uninstall the items with exclamation points or listed as Unknown Device.

Uninstall Hidden Devices

Sometimes the device manager doesn’t show the all the installed devices that you have been installed to the system.(Only shows ones that you are currently connected)If you installed a device and now no longer use it but it will still be installed.But it will not show up in Device Manager.

You can view your hidden devices in Device Manager by command prompt and then type the following commands.

When Device Manager loads, click on View and then click on Show Hidden Devices.

Then expand Imaging Devices, Universal Serial Bus Controllers and Unknown Devices.If you anything that says Unknown Device,go and right click on them and Uninstall them.

Now see if your newer devices work properly.

 

Update Generic USB Hub

When you are getting the Unknown Device error you can open Device Manager and then expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

You can see a item called Generic USB Hub.On other computers you will see two or more of these.Right click on the first item and select Update Driver Software.

When the update dialog box pops up then select Browse my computer for driver software.

Then click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Then select Generic Hub from the list and click Next.Once it finishes installing it then click Close.

If it’s still showing as not recognized device then reapt the direction for each Generic Hub listed.
